Pdf Summary
The article introduces the INSPIRE Self-Report Scale as a new self-report scale for people with serious mental illness (SMI). The scale was developed as part of the Clinical Support System for Serious Mental Illness (CSS-SMI) initiative, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and implemented by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). The ISRS is designed to measure the subjective experiences and symptoms of individuals with psychosis.

The article discusses various existing self-report scales for people with psychosis, such as the Colorado Symptom Index, Symptom Self-rating Scale for Schizophrenia, Motivation And Pleasure scale-Self Report, and Personal and Social Performance self-rating scale. However, the authors identified the need for a new scale that captures changes in symptom severity before and after physical activity.

The authors conducted a feasibility study of the ISRS, comparing self-report ratings by individuals with psychosis to ratings by research clinicians. The study found that the ISRS ratings by individuals with lived experience of psychosis were highly accurate compared to trained research clinicians. The Likert version of the scale was found to be easier to use and score than the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) version.

The ISRS has the potential to be used in clinical and research settings for measurement-based care and momentary assessment. It is a quick and intuitive scale that facilitates communication of current experiences and symptoms. Both the VAS and Likert versions of the ISRS are available for use with permission from the authors. The scale has demonstrated feasibility and potential value in directing treatment and research efforts for people with SMI.

Overall, the article presents the ISRS as a valuable tool for self-report assessment of symptoms and experiences in individuals with serious mental illness.
