Description

The field of telehealth can roughly be divided into two differing clinical processes: synchronous (or real-time) and asynchronous (store and forward, or delayed time).

This webinar will focus on the history and development of asynchronous telepsychiatry using a range of approaches, from letters delivered by horseback to the modern-day uses of video, audio, text and a range of other delayed interactive processes. The primary focus will be on the use of recorded video consultations, and in particular how these can be made simpler and quicker by adding artificial intelligence tools to both collect and analyze video data making work more efficient for providers, and consultations more accessible for patients. Clinical trials of efficacy, satisfaction and outcomes will be reviewed and a future where asynchronous video consultations become common in mental health will be discussed.

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, NCPD credit for nurses, or a certificate of participation may do so by viewing the live presentation and completing the evaluation. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians), NCPD certificate (nurses), or certificate of participation (other disciplines) showing the event date and hours earned.

Continuing Education Credit

In support of improving patient care, the American Psychiatric Association is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Instructors

Peter Yellowlees MD is CEO of AsyncHealth Inc, a telemedicine company he co-founded to implement and promote the practice of asynchronous telepsychiatry (www.asynchealth.com). He is also Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at UC Davis, where he directed the UCD/UCI Fellowship Program in Clinician Wellbeing (2018-23). Previously he was the inaugural Chief Wellness Officer at UC Davis Health (2018-22) and held the Alan Stoudemire Endowed Wellbeing Chair in Psychiatry. He was President of the American Telemedicine Association (2017-8) and has conducted research in the areas of psychiatry, telemedicine and physician health. He has written over 250 academic papers and book chapters and 7 books, as well as presenting over 180 video editorials on psychiatry for Medscape.
