The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach to supported employment for adults diagnosed with serious mental illness has existed for over three decades and is considered the gold standard evidence-based practice. This webinar will begin with a review of the IPS approach - including its principles, practices, and importance- and discuss its implementation across New York State over the course of the past decade. The focus will then shift to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on IPS implementation, examining data including employment outcomes and fidelity. Survey results provided by 88 NYS implementation sites will be shared, focusing on adaptations and innovations reported. Participants will also review information reported by the IPS WORKS international learning community, focusing on changes made with IPS implementation by its member sites. This will lead to a discussion about the lasting impact of these adaptations on IPS implementation in the post-pandemic era.

How to Earn Credit

Participants who wish to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, CE credit for psychologists, CE credit for social workers, or a certificate of participation may do so by viewing the live presentation and completing the evaluation. Participants claiming CE credit for psychologists and those claiming CE credit for Social workers, must have full attendance to claim credit. After evaluating the program, course participants will be provided with an opportunity to claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians), CE certificate (psychologists), CE certificate (social workers) or certificate of participation (other disciplines) showing the event date and hours earned.

• Paul J. Margolies, Ph.D. is Associate Director for Practice Innovation and Implementation at the Center for Practice Innovations at Columbia Psychiatry (CPI), located at New York State Psychiatric Institute and Associate Professor of Clinical Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. At CPI Dr. Margolies oversees implementation and training efforts for a number of initiatives that bring best treatment practices for those diagnosed with serious mental illness to the field, including IPS supported employment. Dr. Margolies is a licensed psychologist who received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Over the course of the past 40+ years, he has worked in community and inpatient settings in a variety of clinical, supervisory and administrative roles. His recent publications focus on implementation and dissemination of evidence-based practices, the Individual Placement and Support approach to supported employment, and Wellness Self-Management. He has presented papers and workshops at regional, national and international conferences on topics including evidence-based practices, transformational leadership, organizational change, cognitive-behavior therapy, and psychiatric rehabilitation. Dr. Margolies reports no financial relationships with commercial interests.
